Mobile
is set to host the 2014 AHSAA South Sectional Swimming and Diving Championship,
Nov. 21-22, at the Fredericka G. Evans Cultural Centre on the campus of Bishop
State Community College. The two-day, first-time event was made possible by the
efforts of the Mobile Sports Authority (MSA), the Alabama High School Athletic
Association (AHSAA), the City of Mobile Swim Association (CMSA) and Bishop State
Community College.
The inaugural South Sectional Championship will bring in the state’s largest contingency to Mobile with around 200 athletes from locations mainly south of Prattville. Traveling with the athletes will be their coaches, families, friends and other supporters. While swimming and diving have been AHSAA-sanctioned sports since 1960 for boys and 1963 for girls, this year’s south meet will be a first-time event for AHSAA.
Prelims for all swimmers kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. CT with the finals set to start at 11:30 a.m. CT Saturday. The diving competition is slated for Saturday morning at 9:05 a.m. CT. For more information, visit www.AHSAA.com.
