University of Alabama Baseball to Play Three-Game Series in Mobile
Dec 10th, 2014
The Mobile Sports Authority, Mobile BayBears, and
the University of Alabama have announced that the University of Alabama Crimson
Tide baseball team will play a three-game series in Mobile at Hank Aaron
Stadium versus the Lipscomb University Bisons, March 6-8, 2015.
The UA baseball team, whom qualified for the
NCAA Regional Tournament in both 2013 and 2014, has played many times in Mobile over the
years. The last time the team played at Hank Aaron Stadium was March 31,
2004 against the University of South Alabama Jaguars . The last time the UA baseball team played in
Mobile was also against the University of South Alabama at Stanky Field on
April 3, 2012 and the last time the University of Alabama played a three-game
series in Mobile was to open up the 1981 season with the University of South
Alabama at Stanky Field.
"Mobile is another opportunity for us to go
into southern Alabama and bring our brand to Mobile," head coach Mitch
Gaspard said in a UA release. "I think it's just another chance for us to
go out throughout the state this year and get out there, have people that may
not be able to watch us play, get to see a series or even if it's one
game."
Danny
Corte, Mobile Sports Authority Executive Director, stated, “When I first heard the UA baseball team would have to play away
from Sewell-Thomas Field in 2015 due to the stadium renovations, I thought it
would make a lot of sense to talk to them about playing in Mobile at ‘The Hank.’ I made a few calls to the University as well as the BayBears and ran the
idea up the flag pole. All the parties
were interested about the idea from the beginning. After several weeks of discussions, we
reached an agreement to have UA play a three-game series at The Hank this
March. Needless to say, we’re very
excited to have Coach Gaspard and his Crimson Tide baseball team playing a
series in Mobile. I’m hopeful that this is
just the start of doing something like this on a yearly basis. We hope to
see many of our area baseball fans out at The Hank.”
Chris Morgan, General Manager of the Mobile BayBears, added, “It’s been over 10 years since the BayBears have hosted the University
of Alabama at Hank Aaron Stadium and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to
host them again for three games in March.
Our organization looks forward to providing fans attending this series
with the same level of outstanding service that they will experience throughout
the upcoming season of the BayBears.”
Ticket information for the three-game series will be
announced soon.
